LGBT Travel In Africa

The World Travel Market Africa has recently managed to sign the International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association as one of its partners for its next event scheduled to take place between the 15th and 17th April 2015. This will be held in Cape Town, South Africa.

The first event for WTM Africa took place in 2014 and was hailed as a huge success. It is now hoped that this partnership agreement will help to educate the people of Africa and start to break down some of the unfortunate prejudice that is becoming more and more common in many African countries. Sadly, this is primarily put down to religious grounds.

It is a well-known fact that the LGBT community often have some of the largest disposable incomes to spend on travel. Therefore, one could argue that many African nations are cutting their noses off to spite their face when it comes to refusing to accept this minority of society.

Of course, while it is great that organisations such as IGLTA and the WTM Africa event are looking to celebrate the diversity of the gay community, it must be stated that there are far too many countries in Africa that are downright unsafe for these minority groups to venture to. Sudan, South Sudan, Somalia, The Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Libya, Algeria, Egypt and others are all examples of nations where you may well be putting your life in danger if you travel to these extremely intolerant countries.

The annual conference for the IGLTA will also be held in Cape Town in 2015, meaning that this country in particular is proving itself to be particularly welcoming to the Gay community and deserving of the billions of pink pounds and dollars they have to spend. As for the other countries in Africa, do yourself a favour and steer well clear until they are able to put a stop to their prejudice. No holiday is ever worth putting your life in danger for and such prejudicial attitudes never deserve to be rewarded with your hard-earned cash!
