Travellers have a soft spot for sunsets. You only have to look at social media to see them awash with holiday images of a sunset somewhere in the world. But where’s best to be for the most striking examples?
Cappadocia
Far and away, one of the best places to watch the setting sun is in the land of fairy chimneys in the UNESCO World Heritage-listed region of Cappadocia, Turkiye. It has a unique landscape and cultural heritage and was even voted the best in a global survey in 2025. Cappadocia's dramatic volcanic formations, deep valleys and centuries-old rock-carved structures were among the key factors behind its leading position.
Tanzania
